Find Suitable Housing Fast with the Housing Hub’s Messaging Board

Jamie-Lee demonstrates how the Housing Hub Messaging Board can help you, or someone you support, to connect with providers and find suitable housing faster and easier.

When I was looking for a new Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) apartment, there weren’t too many suitable housing options that fit my requirements. I knew I wanted a property closer to my family and two bedrooms for my overnight staff, or guests. But I wasted so much time and resources looking at properties, with many of them not suitable to my needs.

Many people with disability seeking supported accommodation go through this painstaking exercise, but now, there is an easier way.

The Housing Hub recently launched their new Messaging Board feature, which allows Housing Seekers to post what they are looking for in an accessible home and connect with Housing Providers directly. This switches up the way seekers and providers interact, send and receive enquiries – saving seekers time and effort while on their housing search by encouraging providers to reach out to them with housing options.

I wish that I had access to the Housing Hub’s Messaging Board during my housing search, as it would have saved me a lot of time and frustration.

While searching for a new home last year, I wasted resources and funding going through the process of finding the right provider. Even though we found an apartment that met my wants and needs, the Housing Provider had limited experience in SDA and I became hesitant about the move. In the end, it was one of my support workers that found a property and provider that was the right fit for me.

Housing Hub Messaging Board

To access the Messaging Board, log into your Housing Seeker Profile or create a new profile, click the ‘Messaging Board’' prompt and then ‘View’. You can create a nickname and avatar and make a post with information including what type of properties you are looking for, where you would like to live, what type of supports you require, and any other needs or preferences.

Housing Providers can then respond to your post directly by recommending their suitable housing listings, then giving you the power to accept or decline the offers you receive. When you accept an offer, you will be asked to provide a few details to be shared with the provider so they can follow up with you with more information.

In your profile, you can view ‘active’ and ‘archived ‘posts. You can only have one post ‘active’ or ‘live’ on the Messaging Board at a time. Archived posts are no longer visible on the Messaging Board.

The Housing Hub team actively monitors the posts but if you ever come across anything on the Messaging Board, you can select the three dots on that post and click ‘report’ to flag it with us.

I’m very happy with my current SDA, however if I move again in the future, I will definitely be accessing the Messaging Board and recommending it to friends and other Housing Seekers. I think it is a great new feature that will help people save a lot of time, resources and funding to find accessible housing that suits their needs.

Sign into your Housing Seeker Profile or create one today, it only takes a few minutes and then you’ll be ready to start posting!
