2026 National Event Code of Conduct

Version dated 5 May 2026

Housing Hub "Disruptive ideas in disability housing" National Event: Code of Conduct

We want everyone who attends a Housing Hub event, including our national event, to have a positive and inclusive experience.

Whether you’re attending, speaking, sponsoring, exhibiting or working with us, whether you’re online or at an in-person event, we aim to create an environment where people feel safe, respected and able to fully participate.

Respect, inclusion and consideration for others sit at the heart of this. Whilst issues are rare, we must be clear about the standards we expect so everyone understands their role in creating a positive experience.

This Code of Conduct sets out these expectations, including what respectful and appropriate behaviour looks like for our events. If behaviour falls short of these expectations, we may ask individuals to stop and, where necessary, take further action, including removal from the event.

1. Comfort, safety and accessibility at our events

We’re committed to creating an environment where everyone feels safe, comfortable and able to participate. Creating this environment is a shared responsibility.  We ask all attendees to take responsibility for their own behaviour and to consider the impact on others.

  • Take care of your own health and wellbeing, and be mindful of others
  • Follow all venue or event-specific safety procedures, including emergency instructions and staff guidance
  • Stay home if you’re unwell or experiencing symptoms that could impact others
  • Respect the space and facilities of our chosen event venue, which includes keeping exits clear and using equipment only as intended
  • Report any safety concerns, hazards or incidents to the Event team or Venue staff as soon as possible.
  • Respect individual access needs and personal space at all times
  • Follow any arrangements in place to support accessibility (e.g., seating, priority areas, etc.)
  • Be mindful that people may experience the event differently
  • Acknowledge and respect the role of support workers, carers, and assistance animals.
  • Respect diverse communication methods, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices, Auslan interpreters, and other communication supports.

2. A respectful event environment

We do not tolerate any behaviour that is intimidating, harmful, offensive or limits another person’s ability to participate.  This includes:

  • Discrimination or exclusion based on identity or personal characteristic, including but not limited to disability, race, sex, gender, identity or expression, age, sexual orientation, religion, cultural background, nationality and marital status.
  • Harassment, abuse or unwanted behaviour, whether verbal or physical, that is offensive, intimidating or inappropriate
  • Unwelcome physical contact or sexual attention
  • Offensive and sexually explicit language, gestures or materials, including ableist language or slurs
  • Intimidation, threats or behaviours that make others feel uncomfortable or unsafe
  • Disruptive behaviour that impacts others' participation and experience of the event
  • Recording, photography of any event attendees or sharing of event content and materials without consent

3. Applying this code

If you experience or witness behaviour that does not meet this Code of Conduct, please report it as soon as possible.

You can report any violation or concern to a Housing Hub staff member supporting the event, or contact us via email at events@housinghub.org.au.

We will review all reported incidents promptly, fairly, and confidentially.  We will not tolerate any retaliation against any person who makes a report in good faith.  We will do our best to support all involved parties and respond in a way that prioritises safety and inclusion.

If behaviour continues after a warning, Housing Hub, venue staff and /or security may take appropriate action, including:

  • Asking you to leave the event. You will not receive a refund under these circumstances
  • Removing access to future Housing Hub events, including attending, speaking, exhibiting or sponsoring
  • Reporting unlawful behaviour to relevant authorities

All decisions about appropriate behaviour and action will be made by Housing Hub and our event team.
